Week 19. Summary

I have a plane in 10 hours, so this summary will be short 🙂

The goals I set myself this week were quite over reasonable, so in order to reach them I had to increase the speed by 10 bpm daily while playing as 8th notes. So it was pretty tough and the result at final speed is not very clean. But I managed to film some pretty decent attempts on camera, so the goals are now complete.

I won’t have any guitar on a vacation so I’ll continue ear training and start practicing 6 levels of rhythm from the Module 22. I really hope that the Internet will be there and I’ll be able to post something for the next week. Don’t wanna fail the challenge because of this vacation.

Anyway, here’s the short video with this week results.

The goals for this week were:

  • [Done] Mixolydian scales as 16th notes at 90 bpm
  • [Done] Major scales (A string) as 16th notes at 90 bpm
  • [Done] Major scales in 3rds as 16th notes at 75 bpm
  • [Done] Major scales in 4 note pattern as 16th notes at 75 bpm
  • [Done] Major pentatonic scales as 16th notes at 90 bpm
  • [Done] Major pentatonic scales in 3rds as 16th notes at 75 bpm
  • [Done] Major pentatonic scales in 4 note pattern as 16th notes at 75 bpm
  • [Done] Minor pentatonic scales as 16th notes at 90 bpm
  • [Done] Minor pentatonic scales in 3rds as 16th notes at 75 bpm
  • [Done] Minor pentatonic scales in 4 note pattern as 16th notes at 75 bpm

My goals for the next week:

  • 6 levels of rhythm at 120 bpm
  • Daily ear training starting from all intervals

Day 131. Still manageable

I really thought I wouldn’t be able to play 3rds and 4 note patterns at 130 bpm, but it appeared to be not that hard. The basic scales at 90 bpm are still tough though.

Day 130. Speeding up slowly

I increased practice speed for 3rds and 4 note pattern exercises. Not sure if I’m able to play it at 150 bpm by the end of the week. Today it was tough sometimes even at 120 bpm.

Week 18. Summary

This week was all about scales and ways of practicing them. There’s not much to say, I’ll better just show the results.

Ear training is much better, I’m not struggling with Minor 3rds anymore, now the issue is with 6ths, 7ths and 9ths. Need to come up with some examples I’m used to, because I’m not familiar with the PDF ones.

The next week I’ll work on dexterity for these scales and patterns. It might be quite confusing in the beginning but hopefully I’ll manage to fulfill my goals.

Anyway, here’s the video.

The goals for this week were:

  • [Done] Mixolydian scales as 8th notes at 150 bpm
  • [Done] Major scales with root on the A string as 8th notes at 150 bpm
  • [Done] Major pentatonic scales as 8th notes at 150 bpm
  • [Done] Minor pentatonic scales as 8th notes at 150 bpm
  • [Done] Major scales with root on the E string in 3rds as 8th notes at 70 bpm
  • [Done] Major pentatonic scales with root on the E string in 3rds as 8th notes at 70 bpm
  • [Done] Minor pentatonic scales with root on the E string in 3rds as 8th notes at 70 bpm
  • [Done] Major scales with root on the E string in 4 note pattern as 8th notes at 70 bpm
  • [Done] Major pentatonic scales with root on the E string in 4 note pattern as 8th notes at 70 bpm
  • [Done] Minor pentatonic scales with root on the E string in 4 note pattern as 8th notes at 70 bpm

My goals for the next week:

  • Mixolydian scales as 16th notes at 90 bpm
  • Major scales (A string) as 16th notes at 90 bpm
  • Major scales in 3rds as 16th notes at 75 bpm
  • Major scales in 4 note pattern as 16th notes at 75 bpm
  • Major pentatonic scales as 16th notes at 90 bpm
  • Major pentatonic scales in 3rds as 16th notes at 75 bpm
  • Major pentatonic scales in 4 note pattern as 16th notes at 75 bpm
  • Minor pentatonic scales as 16th notes at 90 bpm
  • Minor pentatonic scales in 3rds as 16th notes at 75 bpm
  • Minor pentatonic scales in 4 note pattern as 16th notes at 75 bpm
